A fortuknit Grand Opening!

fortuknit friends!

It has been an eventful few days at fortuknit. We are so excited to announce that the online shop is now open as of April 28th (which also happens to be our CCO’s birthday)!

After a 10-day countdown on Socials, our shop went live the morning of April 28th, featuring a selection of items from baby booties to bucket bags (featured above). All items are handmade by our Chief Creative Officer, Mallorie, who wanted the shop opening to coincide with her birthday. Since everything is handmade, selections will be limited, but items will continue to be added regularly so that there is always a one-of-a-kind selection of items available for purchase.

We are also so thrilled to partner with Soak to offer their products in our shop. We recommend tossing a bottle of Soak into your shopping bag to use as your go-to washing detergent for your favorite fortuknit finds. Soak is the modern way to clean and refresh the laundry you love. Its gentle, no-rinse (or quick-rinse, if you prefer) formulation is perfect for hand- or machine-washing your laciest lingerie, softest sweaters, swimwear, active wear and even baby clothes. Made with plant derived and renewable ingredients, Soak is as gentle on the planet as it is on your clothes. You can use it for so many things and it smells amazing!

Most of the handmade items from Opening Day sold out quickly, but there are still a few things up for grabs. We can’t tell you how much we appreciate the outpouring of support you showed on Grand Opening weekend. If you didn’t have a chance to take advantage of our offer for 10% off your first purchase, make sure you sign up for our newsletter to get your code.

Not only was it Grand Opening weekend at fortuknit, it just so happens that Local Yarn Store Day (LYS Day) was on Saturday, April 30th. So we couldn’t help ourselves but to go to a couple of our local Philly yarn shops to see what they had to offer. Our first stop was Weaver House inside the Bok Building in South Philadelphia (pictured below, top). After stopping to pick up some Machine Shop pastries (‘cause you can’t knit on an empty stomach), we quickly headed up to Weaver House to chat with Rachel, who we’d only communicated with via email until this weekend. We snagged a beautiful selection of yarns, including some brightly colored linen. We even got a loom demonstration and a free water bottle! It was such a pleasure to visit their shop.

After that, we headed over to South St. to check out Loop (pictured below, bottom), where the ladies there were busily winding yarn. There is an incredible selection of yarns and notions available there and we were having trouble deciding what to buy, but landed on a gorgeously dyed set of Dye Is Cast Squish Wish skeins, which we already have ideas for and can’t wait to share it with you. We admit that we did have to restrain ourselves a bit—everything was so beautiful. And of course, didn’t leave without a freebie there, too!

As a small business, owned and operated by a minority woman, it’s so important to us to support brands and shops like Soak, Weaver House and Loop. We’re proud to have had the opportunity to spend LYS Day browsing these shops and getting to know the fiber and fabric lovers that make these shops thrive. Happy Local Yarn Store Day to all the local yarn stores that supply us with our dazzling yarns that turn in to stunning projects. And Happy Grand Opening weekend to fortuknit!

We wish you a knit of good fortune!
